Deep breathing can calm your body and mind to help you reset during heated moments or at the end of a long day. The thing is—you have to practice!
There are many different forms and patterns of deep breathing. None is right or wrong, and all of them can be helpful. For now, let’s look at BOX BREATHING.
Box Breathing is also called Square Breathing because it involves the same number of counts in a cycle of 4. Like this:
🟩 Breathe in for 5 seconds
🟩 Hold the inhale for 5 seconds
🟩 Breathe out for 5 seconds
🟩 Hold the exhale for 5 seconds
Then repeat for about 4 cycles, or until you feel more centered and calm.
With any type of deep breathing, it’s helpful to sit up straight, count slowly, and focus on the air coming in and out of your lungs.
