Serves 6

For the Steaks:

1 lb. (450g) ground lean beef

1 green pepper, finely chopped

¼ cup (30g) gluten-free breadcrumbs (or almond flour for low-carb)

1 egg

2 tsp. tomato ketchup

1 tsp. Dijon mustard

½ tsp. dried parsley

½ tsp. onion powder

¼ tsp. salt

1 tsp. olive oil

For the Gravy:

2 tbsp. dairy-free butter (e.g., Miyoko’s or coconut oil)

2 tbsp. gluten-free flour (e.g., cassava, rice, or almond flour)

1½ cups (350ml) beef broth

1 tsp. tomato ketchup

1 tsp. coconut aminos

½ tsp. onion powder

3 cups (250g) brown button mushrooms, sliced

How to Prepare

In a large bowl, mix all the steak ingredients (except olive oil) with your hands. Shape into 6 even-sized patties.

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown the steaks for 3-5 minutes on each side. Remove from the pan and set aside.

Reduce heat to medium and melt the dairy-free butter in the skillet. Stir in the gluten-free flour and cook until slightly browned.

Gradually add the beef broth, stirring constantly to combine.

Stir in ketchup, coconut aminos, and onion powder. Add mushrooms, bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes.

Return the patties to the skillet, cover, and cook for 15 minutes until fully cooked.

Serve immediately with your favorite sides.
